Two separate road accidents were reported on Monday (March 23), leaving one person dead and several injured in Annamayya and Sri Sathya Sai districts.

In Annamayya district, a luggage van overturned on the Horsley Hills ghat road in B. Kothakota mandal, near Madanapalle. The accident took place near the third hairpin bend after the steering rod snapped, the police said. The luggage vehicle was carrying 10 members of a family who were returning from Horsley Hills in the wee hours of Monday. Ten of them sustained injuries and were shifted to the Government District Hospital in Madanapalle in an 108 ambulance, while two of them were later referred to the SVRR Hospital in Tirupati for critical treatment.

In another incident, a cement mixer lorry hit a two-wheeler in Hindupur town on Monday morning. The mishap occurred near the petrol bunk on the main road. The rider, identified as 28-year-old Naveed, suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot.

Police shifted the body to the government area hospital for a postmortem. Cases have been registered in both incidents.
