Sabu M. Jacob, chief coordinator of the corporate-backed political outfit Twenty20, alleged that Kunnathunad MLA P.V. Sreenijin had shown interest in contesting as the Twenty20 candidate in the 2021 Assembly election.
He also accused two Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leaders in Ernakulam of having collected money from him in the past without issuing any receipt. The allegations were made at the State election convention of Twenty20 held at Kolenchery on Sunday (October 5, 2025).
Mr. Jacob said he had not accepted Mr. Sreenijin’s request as he was aware of various aspects concerning him. He added that Mr. Sreenijin had sought his blessings after winning the Kunnathunad Assembly seat.
Mr. Sreenijin denied the allegation in a social media post on Monday (October 6, 2025). He said he had become a member of the CPI(M) in 2018 and termed the allegation baseless, adding that Mr. Jacob had not raised it during the 2021 Assembly election. The other CPI(M) leaders mentioned by Mr. Jacob did not comment on the allegations.
Mr. Jacob said that Twenty20 will contest in 60 panchayats and three municipalities, and the Kochi Corporation in the forthcoming local body elections. Around 1,600 candidates would be in the fray, he added.
