Tipra Motha Party has claimed that Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has hinted at accepting the Roman Script for the Kokborok language, which is spoken by the majority of tribal clans in Tripura. A five-member delegation of the regional party met the chief minister to press for the demand over the script.

Party leader Rabindra Debbarma on Thursday (Janaury 15, 2026) said the delegation composed of MLAs and Tribal District Council members requested Chief Minister Dr Saha to resolve the Roman script issue once for all. “The movement for the Roman script for Kokborok is one of the oldest movements in the state,” he said.

Tipra Motha leaders said Dr. Saha confirmed the State government’s readiness to introduce the Roman script in all levels of examinations under the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE), CBSE and ICSE. Dr. advised them to approach the authorities of all three boards.

“When we took up the statements of BJP leaders on the script controversy, Chief Minister they are mere political rhetoric, but the government stands for the Roman script,” Mr. Debbarma said. Dr. Saha is said to have told them to write to the central and State education boards on the issue.

Another Tipra Motha leader and former MLA Rajeswar Debbarma informed that they will soon visit Delhi to meet top brass of the CBSE and the ICSE.
