Shelke Nachiket Vishwanath assumed office as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of YSR Kadapa district on Monday.

Speaking to the media, the 2019 batch IPS officer announced to crack the whip on anti-social elements, especially gambling, cricket betting and drug peddling. He also warned of taking serious action on miscreants to ensure law and order in the district.

Responding to a query on the murder of a minor girl in the tourist spot of Gandikota, Mr. Vishwanath said that he would get back with more details and solve the case soon. He sought public cooperation in making Kadapa a peaceful district.

Earlier, he received a guard of honour from the armed reserve police ahead of taking charge. At a meeting of senior officials held later, he noted that top priority should be accorded to the complaints received from the public. The SP warned them of action if dereliction of duty was found at any stage on their part. “From a home guard to the Additional Superintendent, anyone can reach out to me on any issue,” he added.
