‘Nandu’, a male tiger under treatment at the Thrissur Zoological Park at Puthur, was euthanised following the worsening of oral cancer.

Nandu had been rescued from Wayanad and brought to the zoological park for care. He was diagnosed with cancer in the mouth and had been undergoing treatment under the supervision of veterinary specialists.

Despite treatment, his condition deteriorated, leaving the tiger unable to eat. Considering the severe pain caused by the disease and the veterinary experts’ assessment that there was no realistic possibility of recovery, euthanasia was carried out under the orders of the Chief Wildlife Warden.

The carcass was subsequently taken to the Mannuthy Veterinary University, where a post-mortem examination was conducted. It was then buried within the premises of the Thrissur Zoological Park in accordance with prescribed procedures.
