The Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday (April 22, 2026) directed the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) to declare the blast at a fireworks unit at Mundathikode in Thrissur as a State-specific disaster. A judicial inquiry has also been ordered into the circumstances that led to the blast. Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair, a single-member judicial commission, is in charge of the inquiry.

An emergency financial assistance of ₹14 lakh will be provided to the families of the deceased, including ₹4 lakh from the State Disaster Response Fund and ₹10 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF). At least 14 people have died in the blast. The injured will be allocated the amount allowed under the Disaster Response Fund and in addition ₹2 lakh will be provided as emergency financial assistance from CMDRF.
