Three National Democratic Alliance candidates were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from the Assembly election-bound Assam on Monday (March 9, 2026).

Two of them —Minister Jogen Mohan and MLA Terash Gowala— are from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the third is Pramod Boro, the president of the United People’s Party Liberal.

They were declared elected unopposed on the last date of withdrawal of nominations, as the Opposition did not contest the polls.

Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to our NDA candidates Shri @JogenMohanAssam, Shri @terosh3 and Shri @PramodBoroBTR on being elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Assam.

Mr. Mohan is an Ahom and Mr Gowala is an Adivasi. Their communities are among six demanding Scheduled Tribe status in Assam.

Mr. Boro belongs to the Bodo community, the largest plains tribe in the northeast and the dominant ethnic group in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

“Receiving my MP certificate is a deeply humbling moment. I thank everyone in BTR and beyond for their trust and blessings. Looking forward to raising the issues of all people of BTR and Assam in the Rajya Sabha,” Mr. Boro said.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the trio. “…I am confident they will take up the causes of Assam in the Upper House deftly and continue to speak for the people of our State whilst supporting the nationalist and development agenda of our Union Govt in the Parliament,” he wrote in a post on X.
