Three persons were killed and seven others were injured after an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus hit a stationary lorry at Sri Nagar Junction under the Gajuwaka police station limits in Visakhapatnam in the early hours of Sunday (May 31, 2026).

According to the Gajuwaka traffic police, the accident occurred around 4 a.m. when a coal-laden lorry had stopped on the roadside due to a flat tyre near Sri Nagar Junction. An APSRTC super-luxury bus, carrying about 35 passengers and travelling from Rajahmundry to Parvathipuram, crashed into the stationary vehicle.

The impact was severe, and the bus co-driver and two passengers died on the spot. Seven other passengers were injured and shifted to King George Hospital (KGH) for treatment. Their condition is being closely monitored by doctors.

Preliminary investigations by the police indicated that overspeeding and negligent driving by the bus driver were the main causes of the accident. A case has been registered and the investigation is on.

Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy expressed shock and grief over the accident. He conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased, including two women passengers and the driver who lost their lives.

The Minister asked officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured passengers, and personally inquired about the health of those being treated at KGH. He said the APSRTC would extend all necessary support to the affected families.

Mr. Ramprasad Reddy also told officials to carry out a detailed inquiry into the accident and submit a report on the circumstances that led to it.
