Three persons were killed in illegal manjuvirattu events conducted in Salem and Krishnagiri districts on Saturday evening.
During an illegal manjuvirattu held at Keeripatti near Attur in Salem district on Saturday evening, a spectator from the same locality, M. Kasi, alias Periyasamy, 65, was gored to death by a bull.
Police said after a manjuvirattu event held without permission at Pukkampatti near Mecheri, a bull gored a farmer, Rajkumar, 57, of the same locality. He sustained grievous injuries and died at a hospital later.
In another manjuvirattu held at Kaveripattinam in Krishnagiri district on Saturday evening, R. Elavarasan, 39, of Mozhikkal Savloor, was gored to death by a bull, while watching the event.
Earlier on Saturday afternoon, two persons, including a woman, were killed in illegal manjuvirattu events held at Kondaiyampalli and Sentharapatti in Salem district. On Saturday alone, four people were killed in illegal manjuvirattu events in the Salem district and one in Krishnagiri district.
One dies in Vellore
In Vellore on Sunday, K. Thilakara, 65, a wage labourer, from Arani in Tiruvannamalai, who had gone to see a bull race at Govinda Reddy Palayam village, was killed due to injuries inflicted by a charging bull. The incident occurred when he was crossing the race track. He sustained injuries to his chest, and was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore where he was declared brought dead.
