The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday directed the Vilathikulam Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to investigate the murder of a 17-year-old Class XII girl at Kulathur in Thoothukudi, which had sparked widespread outrage.

A Division Bench of Justices N. Sathish Kumar and M. Jothiraman directed the Vilathikulam DSP to record audio-video statements of the parents of the girl, and asked the parents to cooperate with the investigation. The Thoothukudi Superintendent of Police submitted a status report. The case diary files were also submitted to the court.
