The Congress president in Maharashtra, Harshvardhan Sapkal, launched a sharp attack against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Monday (September 29, 2025), during the Constitution Satyagraha Padayatra rally. He said the sangh like Ravana, has ten faces, which represent “regressive tendencies” and deserve to be burnt on Dussehra.

“The ten faces are not in ten directions but stand for ten regressive tendencies like anti-constitutional behaviour, anti-religious attitudes, and anti-democratic actions. The burning of these will be the real Vijayadashami (Dussehra),” said Mr. Sapkal, appealing to people to protect the Constitution.

The four-day rally started on Monday (September 29, 2025) from Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur, headquarters of the RSS, and will conclude on October 2, which is Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday and also Dussehra. The RSS will celebrate its 100th year on Dussehra.

Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, was also present at the launch of the Samvidhan Satyagraha Padyatra, which aims to counter the “politics of hatred” attributed to the RSS with a message of love. NCP leader and former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, Shiv Sena leader Sushma Andhare, Congress city president and MLA Vikas Thackeray, former Minister of State Rajendra Mulak, and others also joined the rally.

RSS warned

Taking to X, Mr. Sapkal said, “RSS should burn their ten heads. The ideology that threatens to kill Rahul Gandhi belongs to the RSS; beware if you dare touch even a hair on Rahul Gandhi’s head.”

The padayatra will end at Bapu Kuti in Sevagram. The objective was to spread awareness on protecting the Constitution, promoting the values of democracy, and spreading Gandhian thoughts.

Activists and office bearers of the Hum Bharat Ke Log organisation also participated in the march in large numbers. The march began to the sound of drums and bhajans. Participants chanted Hare Ram Hare Krishna, Devkinandan Gopala, Vote Chor Gaddi Chod, and “Save the Constitution, Save Democracy.”

The BJP criticised Mr. Sapkal’s remarks and called them “irresponsible.” BJP spokesperson Ram Kulkarni took a potshot at Mr. Sapkal and said, “None of your senior leaders respect you in the State. You are criticising RSS to mark your presence. What did Congress do in 50 years? Changes, such as the beef ban, removal of Section 370, and Ram Mandir, are part of the RSS thought process.”
