Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s ‘breakfast scheme’ was a heart-touching initiative, as it took care of the poorest amongst the poor students, whose parents are labourers and cannot provide food to their children. This scheme will be adopted by the Telangana government, he said.
“The Telangana government is going to introduce the scheme in the next academic year. I take inspiration from here. People of Tamil Nadu are lucky as they have the finest CM,” he said, while addressing an event called ‘Kalviyir Sirantha Tamil Nadu’ (Tamil Nadu that excels in education) to demonstrate how various schemes have empowered students and youth, in Chennai on Thursday.
“Tamil Nadu is a leader in providing education, nutrition and sports, and all states are inspired by Tamil Nadu’s education model,” he said. “The four schemes — Chief Minister’s breakfast scheme, Tamil Pudhalvan scheme, Pudumai Penn scheme, Naan Mudhalvan scheme and free bus ride for women (Tamil Nadu Vidiyal Payana Thittam) — are excellent, and entire India must follow these,” he added.
Mr. Reddy said that after the advent of liberalisation in 1991, Tamil Nadu’s manufacturing growth and Telangana’s IT sector boom, had made the Indian economy grow. “The Chennai-Hyderabad corridor became a critical industrial and knowledge hub,” he said.
Noting that Tamil Nadu and Telangana have similar policies on social justice, Mr. Reddy said that he had taken inspiration from the late CM M. Karunanidhi and would implement 42% reservation for OBCs and 27% quota for SC/STs in the upcoming local body elections.
The CM said that his government’s focus was on education and explained the recent initiatives like Young India Skills University, Advanced Technology Centres, and Young India Sports University. He was ready to accommodate some students from Tamil Nadu in the Sports University so that they would bring laurels to India at international events.
He also said that like Tamil Nadu, Telangana also believed in investment in education, as it was not charity but justice and a right. There is a huge focus on education and empowerment of the girl child, he said, adding how the cosmetics charges were increased by 200% and mess charges by 40%.
Mr. Stalin said that Tamil Nadu was ready to share its good schemes with TG, which would contribute to healthy politics. Alleging that there was a conspiracy in the last 1,000 years that denied education to Tamil society, he said that reformers and revolutionaries had challenged the conspiracy. “The Dravidian Movement is the continuation of the revolution in Tamil Nadu, and it helped us make strides in education,” he said.
