Telangana Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday (March 25, 2026) said that petroleum product stocks are more than adequate for the next three months. Firmly assuring that that there is no shortage of any petroleum product in the State, he said that the temporary ‘no stock’ board was put up at a few outlets solely due to delayed tanker arrivals, not due to shortage. The fuel supply is currently running well ahead of demand.

“Supply is more than the demand. We are providing very excess supply,” the Minister emphasised addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, along with Civil Supplies Department Commissioner M. Stephen Raveendra. He said that Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR) are sufficient for 60–65 days and ONGC has extended a credit line to ensure uninterrupted supplies.

The government said that panic buying of fuel in the city was triggered by rumours of petrol, diesel and LPG shortages.

Images of people carrying the fuel in cans and other containers circulated widely on social media. Taking a note of people using such containers to carry petrol and diesel, The Civil Supplies Minister said that the practice is illegal and hazardous. “Officials are on the field. Use of containers will not be allowed. OMCs (Oil Marketing ComPanies) have been strictly instructed,” the Minister warned.

Referring to situations elsewhere in the country, he said that instances of panic-buying was observed in major cities including Ahmedabad, Surat, Bengaluru, Dharwad and Belgaum.

The Minister acknowledged, again, that there are issues with commercial Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders and that the government is actively representing the matter to the Centre.
