The State government has decided to procure 3,000 megawatt of solar power for a period of five years through competitive bidding as part of meeting the renewable power consumption obligation and as part of meeting the targets under the Telangana Clean and Green Energy Policy.

In the orders issued on Saturday (November 29), the Telangana Power Planning and Coordination Committee (TGPPCC) had identified the shortfall of RPO/RCO and decided that an additional 12,000 MW of renewable energy capacity would be required by 2030. The Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation proposed to take up the process of procurement of 5,000 MW solar power through competitive bidding in coordination with Discoms.

After going through the proposal, the State government has approved procurement of 3,000 MW solar power in a phased manner for a period of five years through competitive bidding to meet the RCO. Of the total planned procurement, 1,000 MW each would be procured by June 2026, by December 2026 and by June 2027.
