The Telangana Food Safety department conducted a series of inspections across the State on April 1, targeting meat establishments and drinking water units, as part of its ongoing enforcement drive.

According to officials, a total of 68 inspections were carried out under the State-wide meat drive. During these checks, 33 samples were collected for analysis and 56 notices were issued to food business operators for various violations. Authorities seized approximately 146 kg of spoiled or non-compliant meat, with the largest single seizure of 110 kg reported from Nalgonda district.

Officials noted several lapses in food safety practices, including unhygienic conditions in cold storage equipment and the failure to implement standard inventory systems such as First-In, First-Out and First-Expired, First-Out. Improvement notices were issued under the Food Safety and Standards Act for violations related to hygiene. The department also initiated strict action against establishments found operating without valid licences.
