The Telangana government has constituted a committee to examine the introduction and promotion of international medical tourism in government hospitals, in line with the State’s Tourism Policy 2025–2030, which identifies Medical and Wellness Tourism as a key focus sector.

According to a Government Order (GO) issued by Health Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu on June 6, the committee has been tasked with studying the feasibility of establishing international medical tourism services within government healthcare institutions and submitting its recommendations to the government within one month.

The three-member committee comprises Gaurav Uppal, Managing Director of the Telangana Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC), who will serve as a member; P. Gouthami, Managing Director of Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TGTDC) and Dr. Nagari Bheerappa, Former Director of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

One of the committee’s key responsibilities will be to examine the process for setting up a dedicated International Medical Tourism Block at Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Sanathnagar. The panel will also identify medical, surgical and diagnostic procedures that can be offered under international medical tourism in government institutions and recommend package rates or mechanisms for price fixation.

In addition, the committee has been asked to suggest patient support services for international patients, including language translation facilities, customised dietary arrangements, attendant services and other related support systems aimed at improving the treatment experience for overseas visitors.

The panel will also recommend strategies to promote international medical tourism through market development initiatives in coordination with the Telangana Medical and Wellness Tourism Promotion Board.
