The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Wednesday urged the Election Commission to undertake a detailed re-verification of voters proposed for deletion under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, contending that genuine electors should not be removed without thorough scrutiny maintaining that every genuine voter should be given an opportunity to establish eligibility before any final decision on deletion from the electoral rolls is taken.
According to TPCC Election Commission Coordination Committee Chairman Pulipati Rajesh Kumar, around 73 lakh voters are proposed to be deleted from the electoral rolls, with the names expected to figure in the draft voters’ list scheduled to be published on August 17.
In a representation submitted to Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy, Mr. Rajesh Kumar and other leaders expressed concern over the scale of the proposed deletions. They said the list included 45,18,961 voters marked as permanently shifted, 6,70,203 already enrolled elsewhere and 1,02,294 classified under other categories.
Describing the situation as unreasonable, they have requested the Election Commission not to remove such voters without a deeper examination and re-verification process and also sought the details of voters whose records were classified as uncollectable or anomalous to be shared with the party’s Booth Level Agents (BLAs).
The delegation said that the BLAs would visit the addresses concerned to re-verify voter details and educate eligible electors on submitting Form 6 applications if they were genuine voters whose names had been proposed for deletion.
