Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed profound grief over the demise of veteran actor and Padma Shri recipient Sankaramanchi Janaki, aka ‘Sowcar’ Janaki, on Friday (August 21, 2026). Along with Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam films, she acted in Telugu movies as well.
Stating that Sowcar Janaki, who began her career in childhood by portraying various roles in plays, left her indelible mark on the film industry for nearly seven decades, the Chief Minister recalled how she demonstrated unparalleled talent in the film ‘Shavukaru’ and established herself as Sowcar Janaki.
He remarked that the void she left in the film industry is irreplaceable. Praying that God grant her eternal peace, the Chief Minister conveyed his condolences and deepest sympathies to her family members and fans.

Prominent Telugu actor Konidela Chiranjeevi said that with her natural acting, she breathed life into diverse roles and earned an indelible place in the hearts of audiences. “She was a great actress whose contributions to the Indian film industry will remain unforgettable,” he posted on X.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud condoled her death and recalled her contributions to Telugu cinema and the indelible mark she left on Telugu families across generations through her films.
