A 19-year-old engineering student died in the early hours of Wednesday (December 10, 2025) after he was assaulted during a domestic dispute at his girlfriend’s home in Ameenpur on Tuesday morning.

The deceased, Kakani Jyothi Sravan Sai, a second-year BTech (CSE) student at St. Peter’s Engineering College, had gone to meet his girlfriend, 19-year-old Thamarpally Srija, at her residence in Srujana Laxmi Nagar colony.

Police said the two had known each other since Class 10 and had been in a relationship since, with both families aware of their association. Srija, a second-year BCA student, is three months pregnant.

Investigation revealed that around 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sravan Sai visited her home, where an argument broke out between Srija and her mother, identified as Siri, over the pregnancy. The quarrel escalated, and in a fit of anger, the mother allegedly struck both her daughter and Sravan Sai with a cricket bat. The teenager is said to have suffered blows to his back, forehead, and shoulder while trying to shield Srija.

Despite the altercation, all three remained at the house. Srija and her mother later visited a nearby hospital for a gynaecological check-up and returned at around 11.30 p.m. The trio went to sleep soon after.

According to Ameenpur Police, Sravan Sai complained of severe breathlessness around 3.30 a.m. on Wednesday. He was rushed to a private hospital in KPHB and subsequently shifted to another hospital in Nizampet, for further treatment, where doctors declared him brought dead at 6.30 a.m.

Srija sustained a fracture in her right arm and other injuries during the assault and is currently undergoing treatment. Police stated that her mother has not yet been taken into custody as she is attending to her daughter in hospital. A case however has been booked and investigation is underway.
