Teacher training from May 22

Vacation training for all teachers from lower primary to high school in the State will be organised offline in two phases.

The training will be held on May 22 and 23 and then again on May 25 and 26.

Though a five-day training programme is organised every summer for teachers, fund crunch had led the department to consider providing the training offline.

However, teachers’ organisations had underscored the need to conduct offline training, even if it was curtailed, since textbooks had been revamped and assessment patterns revised.

In the case of Class X, teachers had been given training to teach part I of the textbooks, but the training for part II was not conducted.

Moreover, Class XI textbooks have been revised this year, making it necessary for teachers to be familiarised with the new content for effective classroom teaching once schools reopen.

Module preparation and resource group training for the teacher empowerment programme have been delayed more than usual owing to elections, result declaration, and other administrative processes.

The National Education Policy (NEP) advocates 50 hours of continuous professtional development for teachers annually. The summer training for teachers in the State nearly meets the NEP’s target.
