Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi, whose four-year tenure witnessed a tumultuous period and constant confrontation with the State government, has been transferred to West Bengal. He replaces C.V. Ananda Bose, who stepped down on Thursday (March 5, 2026).
Mr. Ravi was appointed as the Governor of Tamil Nadu on September 18, 2021.

His transfer was announced on Thursday (March 5, 2026) by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a post on X.
“Union Home Minister just informed me that Shri R.N. Ravi is being appointed as Governor of West Bengal. He never consulted with me as per the established convention in this regard,” Ms. Banerjee wrote.
Further, Governor of Manipur Ajay Kumar Bhalla will be in charge of Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has been informed by the Union Government about the change, sources said.
