Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Saturday (April 18, 2026) alleged that the Union government had failed to release the State’s due share of funds even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued to visit Tamil Nadu frequently after the announcement of the Assembly elections.

Campaigning in Gobichettipalayam for DMK candidates N. Nallasivam in the Gobichettipalayam and M. Sivabalan in Anthiyur Assembly constituencies, Mr. Udhayanidhi said the AIADMK and the BJP had attempted to stall the Magalir Urimai scheme by approaching the court, citing the elections. However, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin ensured that ₹5,000 was distributed to 1.31 crore women ahead of the polls, he said. People withdrew the money earlier fearing that the Union government might take it away, he added.
