Two persons were injured after their car plunged into a nearly 100-foot-deep gorge on the Anthiyur-Bargur ghat road in Erode district in the early hours of Wednesday (February 4, 2026).
According to the police, the accident occurred around 5.50 a.m. between two hairpin bends when the car lost control and rolled down the gorge. The vehicle was driven by M. Senthilkumar, 45, of Tiruchi, who was travelling with his wife and daughter to Mysuru in connection with his daughter’s college admission.
The police said the vehicle went off the road due to driver drowsiness while negotiating the hilly stretch. Senthilkumar escaped unhurt in the accident. However, his wife Jayasree, 43, sustained a fracture in her right hand and abrasions on her forehead, while their daughter S. Poorani, 17, suffered a blunt injury to her hip.
The injured were initially taken to the Anthiyur Government Hospital, where first aid was administered. They were later admitted to a private hospital in Anthiyur, and their condition is said to be stable. Bargur police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
