Stating that illegal Bangladesh immigrants are posing a serious threat to the federal structure of the country, State president of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) Siddalinga Swami on Friday said that a large number of such immigrants are residing across Karnataka and urged the State government to take steps to identify and deport them.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Siddalinga Swami said that reports indicate the presence of illegal Bangladesh immigrants in and around Bengaluru as well as in several other districts of the State.

He said that many of them have obtained ration cards and other documents illegally and demanded that the State government take immediate steps to deport them, following the model adopted by Gujarat and Assam.

The seer said that illegal immigrants are also staying in various parts of Kalaburagi district. He said that whenever complaints are lodged against them, cases are instead being registered against complainants.

Describing illegal immigrants as a serious threat to society, he said that protecting them will not help the State’s development but it will instead create major challenges in the future.

He also referred to incidents of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh and criticised the State government for failing to act decisively. He urged the Congress government to immediately initiate steps to identify and deport illegal immigrants.

Party outreach

His party will launch a public outreach campaign across Kalaburagi city and surrounding villages to strengthen its base in the region. Party workers will visit villages and interact with residents to understand their grievances and help in addressing their issues.

The party workers will also assess the performance of elected representatives and collect feedback from the public on development issues during the outreach programme.

He said that a Kalaburagi branch of the Shiv Sena will be inaugurated by Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde tentatively by March this year.
