The Tamil Nadu government on Friday (January 23, 2026) announced three fresh relaxations of norms for jallikattu organisers and participants. The decision followed Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s recent visit to Alanganallur, where he witnessed jallikattu. The State government has decided to do away with the online registration of participants for jallikattu, and registration will henceforth be handled by the respective district administrations, which will organise the events in their districts.
“The government is granting compensation to participants if they die during jallikattu events. Therefore, the rule mandating life insurance for tamers will be relaxed,” an official release said. The State government has also decided to do away with the practice of obtaining undertakings from jallikattu event organisers on stamp papers, it said.
Following the announcements made by the Tamil Nadu government on Friday morning, Minister P. Moorthy thanked Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in the State Legislative Assembly for the relaxations announced in the norms for organising jallikattu events in the State.
