Tamil Nadu has emerged as a high quality host for international and national sports events, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said on Tuesday. He took part in the valedictory of the Chief Minister’s Trophy 2025 in Jawaharlal Nehru indoor stadium in Chennai.

Under the DMK government, the sports sector in Tamil Nadu was witnessing a golden age, the CM said, adding that sports too had joined the list of sectors in which Tamil Nadu was posting achievements.

Stating that only ₹170 crore was allocated towards sports infrastructure during five years of the erstwhile AIADMK regime, the Chief Minister said the DMK government had allocated ₹610 crore to the sector within four years of its tenure.

Over 16.28 lakh had registered online to take part in the CM Trophy this year and over 32,000 of them participated in the State-level sports events after getting selected from district-level events, Mr. Stalin said.

Calling upon sportspersons to excel in their respective fields so as to bring laurels to the State and to the country, Mr. Stalin listed out various measures taken by the DMK government for the development of sports in Tamil Nadu.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said the intention behind organising the CM Trophy every year was to identify and bring out the talents of sports persons in Tamil Nadu.

Referring to various means of support being extended by the Tamil Nadu government as well as the Tamil Nadu Champions Foundation, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin called upon sportspersons to make use of such opportunities to hone their talent.

Chennai Mayor R. Priya, Central Chennai MP Dayanidhi Maran, Egmore MLA I. Paranthamen and senior officials were present on the occasion.
