Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is set to launch the distribution of free laptops to college students during an event in Chennai on January 5, Monday. In line with the announcement made earlier, the State government is set to distribute 20 lakh laptops to college students across the State.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin is also scheduled to take part in the event in Chennai Trade Centre on January 5. The laptops would be distributed in two phases and in the first phase, 10 lakh laptops would be distributed, an official release issued by the State government stated.

The Tamil Nadu government had in March last year announced it had planned to provide high-tech devices to students studying in various colleges of Tamil Nadu, including those pursuing arts, science, engineering, agriculture and medicine. In the first phase, 20 lakh college students will be provided with a tablet or laptop over the next two years.
