Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday (March 13, 2026) commissioned, through video conference from the Secretariat in Chennai, the first unit of the 2×660 MW supercritical thermal power plant established by Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Limited (TNPGCL) at a cost of ₹13,077 crore at Udangudi in Thoothukudi district.

Mr. Stalin also inaugurated 35 completed works at a cost of ₹177.17 crore executed by the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) under the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, nine works completed at a cost of ₹32.23 crore by the Directorate of Town Panchayats, and a school building constructed at a cost of ₹2.50 crore by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).

He inaugurated 11 roads constructed by the Highways Department at a cost of ₹1,843.85 crore in Salem, Namakkal, Coimbatore, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruppur, and Tiruvarur districts.

An official release said, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for five new projects of the GCC worth ₹16.49 crore, three projects of the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board worth ₹25.79 crore, and one project of the Directorate of Municipal Administration worth ₹11.48 crore. He also distributed 28 vehicles worth ₹3.28 crore for official use by the Directorate of Municipal Administration.

He issued appointment orders to the first batch of Assistant Professors selected to fill vacant posts in Government Arts and Science Colleges for the academic year 2025-26.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Stalin, along with some Cabinet colleagues, Greater Chennai Corporation Mayor R. Priya, and senior officials, witnessed the screening of a short film showcasing the achievements of the GCC during 2021-26 near the Labour Statue on Kamarajar Salai.
