In the last 20 years, the current tally of about 51 lakh additional voters comes next to what the State registered in 2011, when the corresponding figure was around 63.65 lakh.

Over 50 lakh more electors have exercised their franchise in the 2026 Assembly election compared to the 2024 Lok Sabha election in Tamil Nadu.

However, this is nothing to be surprised about if one goes by the data regarding the votes polled during Assembly elections in the last 20 years. In fact, this is an illustration of the tradition in Tamil Nadu where people’s interest in the polling process has always been higher during the Assembly polls than during the Lok Sabha elections.
