While the Nagapattinam and Vanur Assembly constituencies were allotted to the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) in 2021 Assembly election, the two constituencies do not feature in the party’s list of constituencies for the current one despite Nagappatinam electing VCK candidate Aloor Shanavas. The party lost Vanur and Arakkonam constituencies in 2021.

This time around, the VCK has got Tindivanam (SC), Kallakurichi (SC), and Panruti, besides the other constituencies it was allotted in 2021. Party sources said Mr. Shanavas was likely to be fielded from Panruti constituency.

The CPI(M) is reportedly in talks to exchange with the Congress party to exchange its Padmanabapuram seat with Congress’ Vilangodu seat in Kanniyakumar district.
