AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday termed the DMK government an “anti-farmer” regime and blamed it for stopping the multi-crore Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar interlinking project.

The AIADMK had launched the project using the State finances to benefit the farming community of Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram districts. However, the DMK government, after coming to power, had stopped the project that was aimed at improving the water table, Mr. Palaniswami said.

Campaigning in Pudukottai for the party candidates of Viralimalai, Alangudi, and Thirumayam Assembly constituencies as well as for the seats allocated to the BJP in the district, Mr. Palaniswami claimed that the DMK government, led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, had lost the faith of the people.

The five-year term of the DMK government was marked by a sharp rise in the prices of rice and other essential commodities, and steep hike in property tax and electricity tariff, which affected the common people.

The Chief Minister was least concerned about the hardships faced by the people and was only keen on indulging in “photo shoots”, Mr. Palaniswami alleged.

‘Corruption is rampant’

Corruption was rampant in all government departments under the DMK rule, Mr. Palaniswami charged, adding that due action would be taken once the AIADMK staged a comeback.

The DMK government was stuck under ₹5 lakh crore loans and had left the people of the State debtors, he said. The DMK government had nothing to project as its achievements and was instead spreading canards about the AIADMK, Mr. Palaniswami added.
