West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday (May 16, 2026) held a public meeting at Falta in the Diamond Harbour area of the State where he targeted Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and said that all the properties in his name will be accounted for.
“Honourable Nephew. You have 24 properties in Kolkata. Leaps and Bounds (a company owned by Trinamool general secretary), there is a palace-like office at Amtala. I have sought details of all property from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation,” Mr. Adhikari said addressing a gathering at Falta.

The counting to Falta Assembly seat was suspended by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on allegations of electoral malpractices. Re-polling on Falta will be held on May 21, and the Chief Minister addressed a gathering in support of the BJP candidate for the seat.
Falta falls under Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency which is represented by Abhishek Banerjee. Mr. Adhikari claimed that people of Diamond Harbour have not been able to exercise their voting rights for a decade ever since the Mr. Banerjee appeared on the State’s political scene.
“The Falta repolls will re-establish voter rights where people have not been able to vote for 10 years ever since the nephew (Abhishek Banerjee) arrived on its political scene,” Mr. Adhikari said, addressing his first public gathering after winning elections.
During his speech he targeted Abhishek Banerjee and Mamata Banerjee on several occasions.
“The world is round. Time does not always remain the same for everyone. How you used the police to beat up the people who came to my meeting on December 3, 2023. How can I forget these things,” the Chief Minister said. Mr. Adhikari said that people who voted for BJP did not only want a change in the government.

He also referred to former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjere as someone who lost to him twice, first at Nandigram in 2021 and at Bhabanipur in 2026. Referring to the Trinamool’s Falta candidate Jahangir Khan, the Chief Minister described him as “a designated most notorious criminal”, and said he would personally handle his case. “The so-called Pushpa is my responsibility now,” he said.
Before the public meeting, the Chief Minister chaired an administrative meeting at Diamond Harbour where he urged people to come forward and register cases of political violence, police atrocities and attacks on women.
“There will be no law of the ruler but rule of the law,” he said. The Chief Minister announced the dissolution of the State police welfare board and said it had become an instrument of the party which was in the power before.
“I have told the police, sit down with a notebook and pen from tomorrow. If you come to complain about all the atrocities that have happened in the last 5 years or even before, the police will have to register an FIR,” he said.
Only a day before, on Friday (May 15, 2026), the Chief Minister had suspended three IPS officers for mishandling the rape and murder of a doctor at R.G. Kar Hospital. The first BJP-led government was sworn in on May 9, and in the past seven days, it has taken several important decisions.
