Alleging that the socio-educational survey which is being held from Monday in Karnataka was an attempt to divide Hinduism, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok on Sunday urged Ministers opposing the survey to quit the ministry.
Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, Mr. Ashok alleged that the sole purpose of the survey was to divide Hinduism in the name of castes. “If it’s a socio-educational survey, why mention caste names in it? Under the guidance of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, the Congress government in Karnataka is trying to divide Hindus,” he alleged.
“Ministers who are opposing this should resign. If they just issue statements and keep quiet, their communities will not forgive them.”
He accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of encouraging religious conversions. “Preventing conversion is the government’s job. But here, Mr. Siddaramaiah is sponsoring this work,” he alleged.
“The Union government has already prepared for the Census and caste census. That is official. The surveys conducted by the State government are not official. Future governments can reject them. If people can write whatever they want, why have a government? This is an insult to the Constitution. This is not a survey that provides justice to any castes. Those who tried to divide Lingayats are now trying to divide Hinduism,” he said.
“Under Mr. Siddaramaiah’s leadership, Karnataka has been turned into a laboratory. In this experiment, efforts are being done to diminish Hinduism,” he alleged.
