The Supreme Court on Thursday (April 23, 2026) stayed the implementation of a Chhattisgarh High Court verdict that convicted Amit Jogi, the son of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, for the murder of Nationalist Congress Party leader Ramvatar Jaggi in 2003 and handed him a life imprisonment.

A Bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and Vijay Bishnoi issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and stayed the operation of the verdict on the “facts and circumstances of the case”. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal appeared for Mr. Jogi in his appeal.
