Schools across the state reopened on Monday for the new academic year 2026-27, with students receiving a warm welcome featuring floral decorations and celebratory gestures.
Schools, including government, aided, and private institutions resumed classes after the summer break.
In many schools, teachers and staff adorned entrances with flowers and decorative items. At some primary schools, teachers performed aarthi to welcome students, while flowers and sweets were distributed in several institutions. Many government schools featured floral arches and other festive elements.
On the first day, students also arrived at the schools with enthusiasm and excitement. SaiSure ragi health mix, midday meals with sweet and additional nutrition eggs and bananas were distributed to the students in all government and aided schools. Textbooks and uniforms were also distributed to all the students.
To effectively manage and monitor attendance of its staff including teachers, the Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) has implemented the mobile-based Karnataka Attendance Management System (KAMS) form this academic year. However, teachers of all schools, took attendance without any technical glitch.
An enrollment drive was held in all schools across the state. There was a good response from parents and students for enrollment in many government schools.
Speaking to The Hindu, V.Rashmi Mahesh, Principal Secretary of the DSEL said, “I visited many schools in Bengaluru South and North Educational districts on Monday and participated in the school opening ceremony. It was seen that there was a huge response from parents for school enrollment. Mainly, enrollment has taken place in large numbers for Pre-Primary (LKG), classes 1, 6 and 9. And, there is a huge demand for bilingual schools.” In addition, it was seen that parents were overwhelmed for enrollment in Karnataka Public Schools (KPS). schools, she added.
Wishes from D.K.Shivakumar:
Meanwhile, Chief Minister-designate D.K. Shivakumar, wished the students for the new academic year. “Our students have made their own contribution as a valuable human resource at the global level, and the whole world is witness to this. Our knowledge base attracts the whole world. Our students have studied in most of the universities of the world and have achieved many achievements,” he said.
Further he stated that, we have valuable human resources. Therefore, the world looks at India through Karnataka. For this reason, our elders have started IITs, IIMs, National Law Schools, ISRO, HAL and other premier institutions here. “Children should continue their education to continue this great ear,” he advised.
