A college student was killed after being hit by the Vande Bharat Express near the Iringal railway gate between Vadakara and Payyoli in Kozhikode district on Tuesday (October 20, 2026) evening.

The deceased was identified as Nandana, a native of Iringal. She was studying at a college in Angamaly and had returned home for the holidays.

According to police sources, the accident occurred while she was attempting to cross the railway tracks. The Vande Bharat Express, which was travelling towards Thiruvananthapuram, struck her, killing her on the spot, they said.

Police and railway officials reached the spot and completed the inquest procedures. Her body was handed over to her relatives after the post-mortem examination at Kozhikode District Hospital.
