A Class X student was caught with a bottle of country-made illicit liquor during a flash inspection by the school authorities at Thamarassery in Kozhikode on Thursday (June 25, 2026). The student was reportedly carrying the illicit liquor in his water bottle for secret distribution among his friends.

Police sources said the student was suspected of distributing the illegally brewed arrack regularly to at least six students in the school. One of them who allegedly assisted him in the illegal act was also interrogated. The school authorities conducted the flash inspection following a tip-off, the police said.

The Thamarassery police reached the school and quizzed over six suspected students who reportedly consumed the drink. Police sources said a case was registered under various sections of the Abkari Act.

Later, the police conducted a flash raid at Poovanmala near Chamal in Kattippara panchayat where the step-father of the accused student allegedly brewed the illicit liquor. Police sources said the man was found absconding.
