A three-day State-level empowerment training programme titled ‘Change-makers towards building a child-friendly society’ commenced at the guest house of the Central University of Karnataka (CUK) in Kalaburagi on March 3.

Around 55 participants from 31 districts of Karnataka are taking part in the training. Experienced resource persons from diverse fields are expected to lead sessions and share their insights during the three-day programme.

The programme is being organised jointly by the Campaign Against Child Labour–Karnataka (CACL-K); the Karnataka Child Rights Observatory (KCRO), Bengaluru; the Federation of Education Resource Centres, Dakshina Kannada; the Department of Post-graduate Studies in Social Work of the Central University of Karnataka, and partner organisations ILP and FCW.

Inaugurating the training, Vice-Chancellor Professor Battu Satyanarayana underlined the importance of education, particularly quality education, in building an equitable society. He observed that those working in the field of social development must continuously update themselves on changing laws and policies to remain effective in their work. Stating that working in the social development sector is increasingly challenging, he said professionals must be prepared to face emerging issues with both knowledge and practical skills. He urged the participants to actively engage in the sessions and make effective use of the training by applying the learning in their respective fields.

Prof. Chennaveera R.M. and Prof. Pavitra R. Alur, Head and Dean of the Department of Post-graduate Studies in Social Work at the Central University of Karnataka, were present along with Saraswati, State Convener of Campaign Against Child Labour–Karnataka, and co-convener Sampath Katti.

Among the chief guests were Katyayini Chamarajan, Executive Director of CIVIC, Bengaluru; Renny D’Souza, Director of the Federation of Education Resource Centres, Dakshina Kannada (Mangaluru); and Anand Raj, Director of Margadarshi, Kalaburagi.

N.V. Vasudeva Sharma, Director of the Karnataka Child Rights Observatory (KCRO), Bengaluru, delivered the introductory address, outlining the objectives and goals of the training programme.
