Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan on Thursday said Chief Minister M.K. Stalin should understand the contributions of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to nation building.

Mr. Murugan was responding to a question by journalists in Chennai on Mr. Stalin’s criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to release a commemorative coin and postal stamp to mark the centenary of the RSS. “I can even send him a book on the RSS. Mr. Stalin should understand the sacrifices, contributions, and services made by the RSS to nation building,” he said.

‘Moment of immense sorrow’

Asked about the September 27 stampede in Karur during a rally addressed by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay, in which 41 people died, the Minister said, “It was a moment of immense sorrow. Along with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, I visited Karur and conveyed our condolences to the bereaved families. There is no need to politicise what has happened. Our National Democratic Alliance MPs also visited Karur, and they will submit a report to the party leadership.”
