DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday invited Muthuvel, a senior party member, and presented him with a statue of former DMK leader M. Karunanidhi.

The meeting took place after Muthuvel’s son, Sivakumar, the party’s Alangulan (South) union secretary, mentioned during an interaction that his father wished to take a photograph with Mr Stalin. The Chief Minister immediately telephoned Mr. Muthuvel and invited him to Arivalayam, the party headquarters. Mr. Sivakumar became emotional and was moved to tears when Mr. Stalin spoke to his father.

Mr. Muthuvel recalled Mr. Stalin’s visit to his village during his tenure as DMK youth wing secretary, noting that he had hoisted the party flag at 1.15 a.m. He also said the Chief Minister had visited the village twice. Mr Stalin, in turn, reminisced about his tours across the State and his visits to small villages, often during the early hours, to hoist party flags.
