The SSLC (Class X) examinations will be held from March 5 to 30 this year, and the results will be declared on May 8.
The schedule of the SSLC and other examinations were announced by General Education Minister V. Sivankutty at a press conference here on Sunday.
The SSLC IT examinations will be held from February 2 to 13, while model examinations are scheduled from February 16 to 20.
Following the examinations, the tabulation will take place from April 7 to 25, followed by a board meeting on May 7.
As part of efforts to ensure quality in public education, the government has implemented a subject minimum system for Classes V to IX. Students must secure at least 30% marks in each subject. Those failing to meet the criterion will be provided with special academic support, Mr. Sivankutty said.
He pointed out that students who received ‘E’ grades in all subjects in the second-term examinations will require support. Statistics show that 2,187 students in Class V, 2,451 in Class VI, and 2,143 in Class VII fall into the category. Notably, the numbers increase in higher classes, with 14,418 students in Class VIII and 6,153 in Class IX securing ‘E’ grades in all subjects.
The department hopes to provide focused interventions to help these students improve their learning outcomes, the Minister said.
Addressing concerns about student workload, Mr. Sivankutty clarified that syllabus rationalisation is aimed not merely at reducing the physical burden of textbooks, but also at easing students’ mental stress. Serious deliberations are under way to streamline the syllabus without compromising educational standards.
He highlighted the concept of ‘evolving texts’ and stressed that teaching the same textbooks for a decade is impractical in a rapidly changing world. Updated content that reflects contemporary developments will be incorporated within the curriculum framework.
According to him, merely increasing the number of lessons would not automatically enhance knowledge. Instead, the focus will be on deep learning through experiential and experimental methods. Feedback from teachers and students on revised textbooks is being collected, and concerns about excessive content load in certain subjects will be addressed only after scientific evaluation.
The State Curriculum Committee will take a decision on syllabus rationalisation soon.
