Sri Lanka’s former President Chandrika Kumaratunga wishes Vijay on ‘remarkable achievement’

Sri Lanka’s former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has wished C. Joseph Vijay on his “remarkable achievement” in the recently held Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Ms. Kumaratunga’s message comes amid a series of congratulatory messages from several politicians from Sri Lanka, some of whom recorded their wishes in Wednesday’s Parliamentary session.

In a statement released on May 06, 2026, the former President said: “I recall with pleasure the long and cordial association between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka and look forward to our continued friendly relationship under your governance”. Further, Ms. Kumaratunga wished Mr. Vijay “strength, wisdom, and success” in his journey ahead.

Sri Lankan media, too, has been closely tracking the outcome of the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. Following front-page news reports, analytical pieces and editorials over the last two days, newspapers and websites are also reporting on the current uncertainty and apparent manoeuvres of different political parties ahead of government formation.
