Veteran Sri Lankan journalist, author, editor, and publisher K.V.S. Mohan died in Chennai on Friday (March 27, 2026) at the age of 86.

Mr. Mohan was the founder-editor of Kadambam, one of Sri Lanka’s earliest Tamil magazines, launched in 1959, and ran it for over three decades. The magazine was an influential platform that helped shape the country’s Tamil literary landscape. He also supported and published emerging writers.

Mr. Mohan was also a franchisee of The Hindu in Sri Lanka for more than a decade.

He was the son of the late K.V.S. Vas, chief editor of Virakesari, a Tamil daily in Sri Lanka, and a former Colombo correspondent for The Hindu.

An alumnus of St. Benedict’s College in Colombo, Mr. Mohan was also a film critic and maintained close ties with leading figures in South Indian cinema from the 1960s. He was also an active member of the Lions Club, Rotary Club, and the Freemasons.

He is survived by his wife and two children.
