Religious fervour marked the ‘Ankurarpanam’ festival at the Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirumala. The festival is observed as a prelude to all the major events performed inside the temple, including the annual Brahmotsavams.
Lord Vishwaksena, equipped with ‘Gada’, ‘Khadga’, ‘Sankhu’, and ‘Chakra’, went around the thoroughfares of the temple town. In the course of his rounds, the Lord also collected ‘putta mannu’— the sacred earth to be used in the ‘Yagasala’ inside the temple.
Special rituals were observed at the Yagasala, followed by the ceremonious sowing of ‘Navadhanyams’ in the earthen pots for germination.
TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu, Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal, Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary and trust board members were also present.
