Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu on Saturday (September 27) emphasized that the newly formed joint committees are crucial for ensuring justice to the people and for strengthening democratic governance.

Addressing the first meeting of eight joint committees held on the Assembly premises, the Speaker said these committees serve as the ‘lifeline of legislatures’ as it is not possible to hold full House sessions throughout the year. “Committees share the workload of the Assembly, function round the year, and reflect the representation of both the Assembly and the Council,” he said.

Mr. Ayyannapatrudu urged committee members to tour districts, interact with citizens directly, and discuss their issues to suggest practical solutions. He also recommended study visits to other States whenever necessary. The Speaker highlighted that the committees play a pivotal role in reviewing governance and ensuring accountability.

He further stressed that measures for the welfare of women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities are not only moral responsibilities but also constitutional duties. He added that the development of backward, unorganized, and minority communities is another key area where committees hold immense significance.

Legislative Council Chairman Koyye Moshenu Raju and Legislature Secretary-General Prasanna Kumar Suryadevara also participated in the meeting.
