Though rainfall in Dharwad is scanty, sowing has surged in the district. The district was expected to receive 173.3 mm of rainfall between June 1 and July 10 during the 2026 monsoon season. However, the district has received 141.1 mm of rainfall, recording a deficit of 19%.
Despite the deficit in rainfall, the district has achieved 93% of the sowing target.
During the current monsoon season, Dharwad district set a sowing target of 2.82 lakh hectares. So far, sowing has been completed in 2.63 lakh hectares, achieving 93% of the target.
Sowing was paused for a brief period due to weak monsoon in June but, it gathered momentum in July after most parts of the district received moderate to heavy rain, said a release from Deputy Commissioner Snehal R.
The district earlier set a seed distribution target of 18,457 quintals. Of this, 15,853 quintals have already been distributed to farmers.
A balance stock of 2,604 quintals remains and there is no shortage of seeds in the district.
Similarly, the district has had fertiliser stock of 57,597 tonnes for the 2026 monsoon season. Of this, 31,573 tonnes have been sold to farmers. The district still has a balance stock of 26,024 tonnes, ensuring there is no shortage of fertilisers, the Deputy Commissioner stated.
Meanwhile, officials have begun crop survey for the 2026-27 monsoon season.
Farmers can independently carry out a survey of crops grown on their land by uploading photographs. A crop survey application has been released which farmers can download from the Google Play Store to carry out the survey, the release said.
Crop survey data will be used for estimating the extent of agricultural, horticultural and sericulture crops, survey number-wise crop verification under the crop insurance scheme, conducting crop-cutting experiments, identifying eligible beneficiaries under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme, recording crop details in RTCs, preparing reports on crop damage during natural disasters under NDRF and SDRF norms, processing crop loans in banks and preparing lists of eligible beneficiaries.
Farmers have been advised to mandatorily enter details of agricultural, horticultural, forestry and sericulture crops grown on their land through the app.
The Deputy Commissioner said that directions have been issued to officials to take precautionary measures during the monsoon and ensure that there is no shortage of drinking water for people and livestock across the district, according to the release.
