In a gruesome act, a son allegedly killed his mother by slitting her throat with a sharp knife at Proddatur town in Kadapa district on Sunday (October 05, 2025). The police, however, found the son watching television and showing no remorse for his act.

The deceased identified as Uppuluri Lakshmi Devi, wife of Vijayabhaskar Reddy, was working as a teacher at a government school in Sriram Nagar colony. Her son Yashwant Kumar Reddy finished B.Tech in Chennai three years ago and was on a job hunt in Hyderabad.

According to the police, Lakshmi Devi used to send her son money for his monthly expenses, but rejected his demand for ₹10,000. Nursing a grudge, he reached Proddatur from Hyderabad early on Sunday morning and picked up a quarrel with her.

He locked his father, Vijayabhaskar Reddy, in the bedroom when the latter tried to intervene. Then he slit his mother’s throat with a vegetable knife, dragged her outside the house, bolted the doors from inside, and watched television.

Proddatur police rushed to the spot and picked up Yashwant for questioning. Lakshmi Devi’s body was sent for post-mortem.
