Deputy Commissioner Rahul Pandve on Wednesday said that the sacrifice of police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty will always be remembered. He called upon society to extend support to the families of such martyrs.

Speaking at the Police Commemoration Day observance at the Police Martyrs Memorial behind the District Police Chief’s office in Yadgir, Mr. Pandve paid floral tributes to the personnel and acknowledged the role of the police in maintaining law and order and safeguarding public peace.

He said that the selfless service of police personnel in upholding the law and protecting democratic values deserved the highest respect.

While their loss caused immense grief to their families, society must stand by them and recognise their sacrifice, he added.

Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar read out the roll of honour and recalled the origins of Police Commemoration Day.

He said that on October 21, 1959, 10 Indian police personnel led by CRPF Deputy Superintendent of Police Karan Singh were killed in an attack by Chinese troops while defending the Hot Springs post near the India-China border. October 21 is observed annually to honour their courage and sacrifice.

Mr. Shankar said that 154 personnel from State Police forces and Central Armed Police forces died in the line of duty between September 2025 and August 2026, including five from Karnataka. He offered condolences to the bereaved families.

Recently qualified IAS officer Sandeep Badad, Additional Superintendent of Police Dharanesh, Deputy Superintendents of Police Bharath Kumar Talwar, Suresh M. and Shivaraj Katakbhavi, officials, Home Guards personnel and others also paid floral tributes at the memorial.
