Six drug peddlers were arrested in Pudur Nagar near Arunachaleswarar temple in Tiruvannamalai town on Wednesday for possession and sale of ganja

Police said the arrested persons were key suspect K. Vijayan (46), his wife V. Santhi (39), son V. Bharani (22), G. Mukesh (28), R. Prabhu (63), N. Santhosh (26). They are residents of Tiruvannamalai.

Police said that as part of surveillance, a police team was patrolling the Girivalam Path near the temple when they intercepted Bharani and Mukesh, who were coming in a two-wheeler. The team checked them and found the contraband.

Police said the duo told them that key suspect Vijayan procured ganja from drug peddlers in Chittoor (A.P) to sell them to visitors in the town. Along with his Santhi and Bharani, Vijayan got in touch with buyers through mobile phones. The gang sells small quantities of ganja to buyers. They travel in two-wheelers to deliver the contraband to buyers in the town.

Police said based on information, they conducted searches in the house of Vijayan and found around 10 kg of ganja in the house. A case was registered. Arrested persons were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is under way.
