As part of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, draft electoral rolls — to be published on July 31, 2026 — will have names of all electors whose Enumeration Forms are received.

Thereafter, Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) will issue notice to people who could not be linked or there is discrepancy in their linking with the electoral rolls of the last revision. In Telangana, the SIR was last conducted in 2002 when the State was part of erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh. A list of such persons to whom notices have been issued will be published.

Addressing a press conference held in Hyderabad on Saturday (May 16, 2026), Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana C Sudharshan Reddy said that people who received the notices have to submit one of the 12 documents which includes Aadhaar Card.

The other documents include passport; birth certificate issued by competent authority; matriculation or educational certificate issued by the competent State authority; OBC/SC/ST or any caste certificate issued by competent authority; family register prepared by State or local authorities; any land or a house allotment certificate by the government; permanent residence certificate issued by competent State authority.

While the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was mentioned as one of the 12 documents, the CEO said that it does not apply to Telangana.

SIR agenda

The CEO stressed that the agenda of the SIR is to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out of the electoral rolls and people ineligible (dead, shifted or migrated) are not part of it.

The Election Commission of India has a few days ago announced a detailed schedule of SIR process in 16 States and three Union Territories, including Telangana.

In Telangana, Booth Level Officers (BLO) will visit houses from June 25 to July 24, 2026. After publication of draft electoral rolls on July 31, the period of filing claims and objections is from July 31 to August 30, 2026. Notice phase (issuance, hearing and verification); decision on Enumeration Forms and disposal of claims and objections is from July 31 to September 28, 2026. The final electoral rolls will be published on October 1, 2026.

3.39 crore electors in Telangana

There are 3,39,24,664 electors in Telangana and 64.38% were mapped, as per information from the CEO’s office on Saturday (May 15, 2026) The mapping process is still underway.
